A's thrilled athletic Marincov chose baseball

While Tyler Marincov doesn't have a standout tool, his overall game made him an intriguing prospect in this year's First-Year Player Draft, where he was taken by the A's with the 251st overall pick.
A former star high school quarterback, Marincov still plays with an aggressive football mentality and earns high marks for his hustle. His strong 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame produces good power, though it doesn't always carry over into games.
He made good contact and has been mostly a gap-to-gap hitter. He hit .331 this year with a .563 slugging percentage in 59 games. He tallied 19 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, 54 RBIs and 64 runs scored, leading the team in nearly every statistical category.
Marincov is an average runner and uses the most of his speed on the basepaths; he was successful on 21 of 23 stolen-base attempts this season. He can play center field, but his profile fits best at the next level in right field.
