Martin Pagan's Walk-Off Helps Timber Creek Advance

ORLANDO, Fla. —
Martin Pagan hit a three-run walk-off homer over the left field wall Tuesday night to give Timber Creek a 6-3 win over Oviedo in the opening round of Regionals.
The win sends the Wolves – the District 4 champs – to the Class 6A region semifinals against Lake Howell on Friday at 7 p.m. Timber Creek (22-8) will play host at Wolf Pack Park. Lake Howell (22-7) defeated Winter Park 10-5.
Timber Creek led 3-1 for much of the way until Collin Maxwell’s grounder to first with runners on second and third opened the door for Oviedo in the fifth inning. The throw home by Pagan bounced behind the backstop, allowing the two runs to cross home plate for the Lions.
From there, TCHS pitcher Eugene Vazquez struck out two, forced two batters to pop out and two others to hit grounders, one of which went for a double play. Vazquez struck out four and went 2-for-2 with three runs scored on the night. He was the first to reach base in the bottom of the seventh when he doubled off a fly ball to the wall in centerfield.
Spencer Angeles reached base on an intentional walk two batters later. That set up the dramatic finish off the bat of Pagan, who finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Pagan connected on the second pitch of the at-bat to keep the season alive for a team that reached the state semifinals in 2010. It was his first home run on the year.
Oviedo stranded two runners in each the sixth and seventh innings. Their season ends as District 3 runners-up.
