Coach Grove was drafted by the Atlanta Braves out of Douglas County High School in 1987 and picked up by the Toronto Blue Jays 1991 in the Major League Rule 5 Draft. He retired from professional baseball in 1994 after having shoulder surgery. Since playing pro ball, Coach Grove has coached at St. Petersburg Community College and Seminole Community College.
After earning a B.S. degree in Physical Education from the University of Central Florida, Coach Grove has coached at the high school level. After one year as an assistant coach at Winter Park High he was hired as the Head Coach at Colonial. Over the four-year period at Colonial he compiled a 93-32 record; reaching the State playoffs in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. He guided Colonial to the State Championship Final in 2000. While at Colonial he turned them into one of the top Class 6A programs in the State of Florida.
Coach Grove started the baseball program at Timber Creek in 2002. The Wolves have been ranked in National polls as well as in the top ten in 6A in the State of Florida. Timber Creek has been in the state play-offs in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2011. His 2010 and 2012 Timber Creek teams were Regional Champs and reached the State Final Four losing to the eventual State Champions. They were district champions in 2011 and 2012. His record at Timber Creek is 225-59, and overall record as a Head Coach is 318-121 (72%). Coach Grove has an average of 21 wins a year and 8 losses.
Coach Grove has been voted to be the Team Florida Head Coach for 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. The All-Star team traveled to Norman, Oklahoma to play in the Sunbelt Classic for the National Championship. In 2003 and 2004 Team Florida played in the National Title game at the University of Oklahoma. In 2008, Grove was elected once again as Team Florida's Head Coach. Coach Grove was also hired to coach the Georgia Stars in Atlanta, Georgia. He won three National Championships with Coach Scott Benedict and the Georgia Stars. Grove and Benedict also coached and won the Georgia Dugout College League in the summer 2006.
He has been recognized as Florida Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2010, National Coach of the Year for 2010 and Metro Coach of the Year in 2010 & 2011.
Coach Grove has been instrumental in helping student athletes obtain college scholarships and professional contracts. He has experience in developing baseball players and getting them to the next level. Grove also works as a scout for Major League Baseball and has coached many players that have been drafted. In fact, 90% of his athletes go on to play college baseball.
Coach Grove is married to Dr. Shayne Grove. They have been married for 17 years with two children; Dakoda, 13 and Cassidy, 10. Dr. Shayne Grove is the Principal of Sunrise Elementary in Orlando. The Grove family resides in Eastwood.
